Church Overview

In 1952 a small group of people led by a man named Walter Huss founded the Eugene Foursquare church, housed in a small building they built and which still remains on 18th and Cleveland. In 1972, under the leadership of Roy Hicks, Jr., the church moved to its current location at 13th Ave and Polk.

Today, Eugene Faith Center continues to enjoy its geographical location in the heart of Eugene as it seeks to serve as a resource church to the city and surrounding community. In the Gospels we often see Jesus welcoming, receiving, and embracing all kinds of people with wonderful, powerful effects. For our church, welcome is not just a polite custom, but a powerful proclamation of the Gospel: As God, through Jesus, has welcomed each of us, we also warmly welcome one another as we seek to follow the Way of Jesus together.

Eugene Faith Center is part of a larger church family, a denomination known as the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. To read more about the history and teachings of the Foursquare church, you can go to www.foursquare.org.

As Middle Schoolers, we are learning to love Jesus and one another more and more. We play a lot, sing songs to Jesus, read about Him in the Bible, and try to make new friends every week. We occasionally have water fights, eat donuts, and paint racing stripes on cars. If you are in sixth, seventh or eighth grade, come on in—We would love to meet you!

We get together Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the youth room, which is next to the gym.

Onyx House Gathering

College Age

Eugene Faith Center’s College-Age Group meets at The Onyx House, which is located right next to the University of Oregon campus at 1850 Onyx Street. We meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday nights (during the summer, we meet at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays). If you are between the ages of 18-25, we would love to have you join us.

Every week when we gather, we do five essential things:

Worship - Taking time to tell God how wonderful He is. We do this through music, our words, our attitudes of reverence, thanksgiving and celebration.

Prayer - Talking to God in a down-to-earth way. We talk to Him remembering that He is our Father, He loves us and He cares about every facet of human life.

Bible Study – Seeing what the Bible has to say about who God is and who we are. Even though Jesus’ message is an ancient one, He still speaks to our lives today. God has things he wants us to learn; we want to give Him the opportunity to teach us.

Communion – Remembering and celebrating Christ’s sacrifice on the cross together as a community is a powerful way to refocus our hearts and minds.

Fellowship - Being with people. It is so good to encourage each other and enjoy each other’s presence.

Living at Onyx

In addition to hosting a weekly worship service, the Onyx House provides a 60-person residential community where students can accomplish their academic and career goals while being involved in campus ministry. The house is run, operated and maintained by Eugene Faith Center as an extension of the church’s college-age ministry.

Bible Course image

Bible Course

This course is a do-it-yourself, online adaptation of one I originally offered in our church in 1991. It consists of:

A. Reading Guides and Exercises
B. Skeletal Discussion Notes
C. Additional Helps and Charts

The Reading Guide and Exercises are to be used in conjunction with an Atlas and a Bible Dictionary, or help like Halley’s Bible Handbook. Study Bibles tend to be too doctrinal, although the Oxford Study Bible (RSV) is good and usually available used at Smith Family Bookstore.

Some suggestions for Bible Dictionaries include:

Halley’s (really a little handbook)
Smith’s Bible Dictionary
New Bible Dictionary
Harper’s Bible
Dictionary
Others are multi-volume

The materials are designed to help you read through the Bible and gain a basic knowledge of the Bible by thoughtfully reading it for yourself.

I hope it’s a blessing.

Welcome Letter

A note from Pastor Steve

Steve and Tana Overman
Steve and Tana Overman

I’m so happy you stopped by the website and hope you’ll find something interesting or helpful here. And I would love it if you wanted to come and visit the church sometime. Ever since I’ve been a part of our church I’ve heard people say, “It’s all about relationship.” So here at the church it’s been our desire to be a place where we can all find nurture and empowerment that can help us connect with God and one another in more healthy and enjoyable ways. Then, together with God and one another we can pray and work to see God’s kingdom come in greater and richer ways here on earth.

To help us grow toward those ends we gather together on the weekend to share in worship, prayer, study and a modest amount of “family business.” Throughout the week we share life together, learning, playing and serving together in ways that hopefully can be a true blessing to ourselves and our world.

If you interested in getting a greater sense of the life of the church you can browse through this website, come visit a worship service or leave us a note at info@faithcenter.net.
